Roger Davies
Professor
International Business Strategy
Professor Davies joined Hitotsubashi University's Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy in 2004. Prior to this post, he taught for many years at Ehime University in Matsuyama, Japan, where he was professor of Applied Linguistics and Director of Studies in the Master's Program in Linguistics and English L2 Education. Professor Davies was also appointed Academic Director of Ehime University's English Education Center, where he was instrumental in establishing the Center's organizational structure, pedagogical objectives, and new course of studies. Before coming to Japan, he taught in academic and business programs throughout the world, including countries in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Selected Papers and Publications
Professor Davies has written more than 30 articles on subjects in Applied Linguistics, English L2 Education, and Intercultural Communication. He is also the lead editor of the Charles E. Tuttle publication, The Japanese Mind: Understanding Contemporary Japanese Culture, a collection of essays written by his senior undergraduates at Ehime University. The Japanese Mind has been critically acclaimed by The Times of London, which listed it as "required reading" for understanding Japanese culture, and The Daily Yomiuri, which described it as "stuffed to bursting with powerful analysis and sparkling intuition." Russian and Italian editions of the book were published in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Professor Davies has also been appointed to a number of editorial positions on academic journals throughout his career, including posts as editor-in-chief, senior editor, book reviews editor, and editorial board member.
Current Research and Activities
Professor Davies' primary research interests include (1) the interface between information technology and multimedia communications, particularly in terms of e-business entrepreneurship in educational settings, and (2) the information economy, especially the analysis of business models for platform-based industries.
