Tokyo is a city that sits at the convergence of new and old, east and west and seems to blend those things in its own unique way. This bustling, vibrant city that never sleeps is as deceiving as it is exciting, confusing as it is familiar and yet after only being here a short while one quickly feels that this is home. Regularly ranked among the world's top food destinations, there are more restaurants per capita than almost any other city on earth. A shoppers' paradise, Tokyo not only has its own unique blend of products and services but also imports the most highly regarded products and brands from all over the world. There is no end to the vast array of entertainment, arts and culture experiences on display year round as many of the world's top artists from inside and outside Japan frequent Tokyo for concerts and exhibitions. Those who come here will find that this city and its people leave a lasting positive impression on their lives.
Living in Tokyo
Tokyo is located roughly in the center of the Japanese islands on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu. Tokyo is the capital city of Japan and also its most populous city with over 30 million residents in its greater metropolitan area. Lying on the coast, Tokyo enjoys four seasons during the year. The climate is subtropical with hot humid summers and mild winters. In the fall there can be frequent typhoons, though few make it into the city area and instead tend to move out to sea. Late May to mid-June is the rainy season followed by a peak in humidity around mid July at about 75% to 80%. For such a large city the air pollution is comparatively low and the city is quite safe.
Transportation
Tokyo prides itself on its public transportation and sports one of the world's most efficient and well laid out rail and subway systems. Tokyo Metro and Toei subway lines as well as Japan Rail feed most of the city core with private rail lines supplying service to the areas outside the Yamanote main loop that circles the city center. The city has two major international airports at Narita and Haneda and full access anywhere in Japan via buses, trains and the bullet train.
